For more than a dozen years, AutoPrice has been the premier catalog creation and updating software package for Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress users. Already in use by hundreds of catalogers worldwide, AutoPrice provides sophisticated linking of InDesign documents to any external database of information. As the name implies, AutoPrice is great for performing pricing updates on catalogs, retail flyers and similar publications, but is also perfect for updating phone lists, time tables, or any other type of information that can be referenced by a "key value" such as a product number (SKU). AutoPrice works by allowing the user to establish "placeholders" within new or existing documents which are linked to a database file. When the user initiates an update, the most current data is pulled from the database and replaces the placeholder text in the document. Both text and picture information is fully supported. Using the AutoPrice exclusive "Database Definition" feature, users can produce multiple price or currency versions of their catalog pages in a matter of seconds. In addition to the database updating features, AutoPrice also provides a robust reporting engine that can be used to detect errors or omissions in the catalog. The reports list information about every placeholder in a document, including SKU and price information. These reports can be saved in tab or comma separated format, making them ideal for use with IT systems that perform double-checks on published pricing information. The reports can also be used to generate SKU-level index information, as the page numbers are recorded for each and every search key used in the document. For currency versioning or retail applications, AutoPrice also provides a Price Style feature that will automatically style incoming pricing data in virtually any fashion. And since many catalogers store their pages as separate InDesign documents, the built-in batch processing feature of AutoPrice makes it easy to get though hundreds of documents at a time.
