Drive, as an electronic device, or as a combination of mechanics and electronics, is performed by its absolute physical speed and data put rate. On the other hand, any drive is connected to a system, and the optimum algorithm as a more economical approach to the best possible on-system performance is widely used. Whence, SciMark Standard Drives is forcing drives to run on the operating system level, in order to see how fast it could be. There would be a large file made, but nothing will be more than write and read. It is good to measure the throughout of most kinds of drives.
